Atlassian Central is a landmark commercial development currently under construction beside Central Station in Sydney.
The project forms a major part of the growing Tech Central precinct and is being delivered as the future Sydney headquarters for Atlassian. Once complete, the building will combine premium office space, retail areas, public spaces and accommodation, creating a major new destination for workers, visitors and the broader technology community.
The project has been designed by SHoP Architects in collaboration with Australian architecture firm BVN. The design is widely recognised for its innovative use of materials and its focus on sustainability, workplace quality and connection to the surrounding city. A key feature of the tower is its hybrid-timber structure, supported by a striking steel exoskeleton and glass façade. This gives the building a distinctive architectural identity while helping to reduce the environmental impact of the structure.
Atlassian Central is expected to become one of the world’s tallest commercial hybrid-timber buildings upon completion. The structure combines mass timber with steel and concrete, using modern construction techniques to deliver a high-performance commercial tower in a dense city environment. The building has also been designed with landscaped terraces, naturally ventilated areas and flexible internal spaces, supporting a modern workplace that focuses on sustainability, comfort and collaboration.
Construction is being delivered by a joint venture between Built and Obayashi Corporation, with Dexus and Atlassian listed as the project clients. The tower is a complex build due to its location beside Sydney’s busiest transport hub and its integration with existing heritage elements, including the former YHA building and Parcel Shed. The project is valued at approximately $1.4 billion and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
Once completed, Atlassian Central will play an important role in the future of Sydney’s Tech Central precinct. The building is designed to bring together technology, business, transport access and public activation in one prominent location. With Atlassian as the anchor tenant and Dexus as development partner, the project is set to become a major commercial and architectural landmark for Sydney.
